Children in Care Councils

CiCC stands for Children in Care Council. These councils are groups of young people who are in Care and who meet up now and then. They talk with the adults from the LA who are there to find out what the young people need. The young people try to tell the LA how they can make being in care better for them and other young people and children. The Council is a way for young people to get their ideas across to the those who run Care in their local area.

ANV is Currently Mapping all CiCC’s via Regional Meetings

Along with Dr Roger Morgan, the Childrens Rights Director, ANV are helping the Department for Education run several Children in Care Council (CiCC) regional meetings until Spring 2013.

These meetings are a real chance for young people who sit on their CiC council (usually as CiCC chair) to share their experience about what they find works to get things done and provoke positive changes in their local authorities. The Minister Tim Loughton is on board and has attended several meetings already and he is keen to hear directly from young people about their CiCCs.

At ANV we are excited about these plans as we really want to help develop a forum for CiC council chairs - to discuss amongst themselves the services and support they receive in their respective LAs, what they value most etc. Please get in touch for more info about these exciting new opportunities to make CiC councils really work.

ANV are also currently mapping and researching Children in Care Councils nationally and will be producing annual reports (to be published on this site).

Every local authority in England should set up a CiCC, the aim being to raise local issues affecting children and young people and to set up their ‘Pledge’ (their Promise). ANV can help local authorities to set up and maintain their CiCC effectively.

So far we have had a good response from local authorities and have been able to gather info on plenty of positive progress and good practice. The survey is for representativives of CiCC's. So if you're a professional working for a local authority or a young person still receiving services from your local authority, please contact us for the latest survey.
