I was approached by a National Voice representative and asked to attend a Development Weekend at the NSPCC Headquarters in Leicester, to give me an insight into the workings of a Management Commitee. My initial impression was that this would be another one of those endless meetings, full of people wanting to 'change the world' or something. But it wasn't, it was very different.

As I pulled up to the amazing building in my Taxi my stomach was filled with butterflies. I entered the building and was immediately shown to my room by the usher, for an afternoon rest before the weekends activities began.

My days were filled with seminars, discussing various issues relating to Management Commitees and what the actual commitee would be set up to do. The evenings were more informal. We arranged different activities to occupy ourselves in the evenings, enabling us to build relationships with adults and young people alike. There were plenty of people to meet and everybody was different. It was great to chat and liase with other young people in a similar position to myself. I made plenty of new friends, some of whom I still write to.

On the whole I can see A National Voice being very helpful towards all young people in care. It gives us the opportunity to 'voice' our own opinions, personally, hopefully obtaining everything that we wish and are entitled to.
