a national voice is
an organisation run for and by young people who are or have been in care
our goals are
- to continue to be a young person led organisation
- to give an individual and collective voice and to ensure young people from care have a say in all decisions that affect them
- to inform and influence central and local government decisions about the care system in England
- to educate professionals and general public about the lives and experiences of young people from care
- to promote positive images of young people from care
- to raise awareness about care issues and reduce stigma
- to positively promote the rights of young people from care and to promote the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child
what we do is
- help young people from all over england to set up and join in local in-care/aftercare groups
- help young people change the care system for the better
- help young people speak up and have an effect on decisions about the care system
- help young people send out good messages about themselves and tackle any bad ones
it is run by
a Board of Directors of young people who are either in care or are care-leavers. They are a mixed group from all over England . The things that everyone has in common are personal experience of being in care and a commitment to the rights of young people in and leaving care.
you can get involved by
- becoming a member
- coming to meetings in your area
- starting your own local group
- lobbying parliament
- inviting 'a national voice' to come and speak with your group
- sending your views or writing an article, letter or poem for a national voice newsletter or our website
- or just by letting us know what you think
One of the most important ways that you can get involved and help change the care system for the better is to tell us what you think:
- what do you think a national voice should be doing?
- what do you think the most important issues are for young people who are in or leaving care?
everyone's experience of care is different and everyone's contribution to a national voice will be welcomed and valued.
